"Cry" is the second studio album by American ambient pop band Cigarettes After Sex, released in 2019. The work is a synthesis of the genres Dream Pop, Ambient Pop and Slowcore. The album was recorded on the Spanish island of Mallorca, which is reflected in its specific sonic atmosphere. The sound is based on minimalist instrumentation: resonant passages of acoustic and electric guitars, Fender Rhodes, soft bass lines and a low-tempo rhythm section. The compositional structure is built on cyclical forms and Greg Gonzalez's androgynous, "whisper-like" vocals. The recording features musicians: Greg Gonzalez, Jacob Tomsky and Randy Miller. The album is characterized by a monochromatic sonic aesthetic, instrumental simplicity and intensive use of studio reverb, which creates a spacious, ambient space. The release reflects one of the most specific sonic identities in modern indie music.
